Basic Kitchen Utensils

Utensils

There are so many kitchen gadgets, but which ones are true essentials? Here is our list of basic kitchen tools that will be of use when kitting out a home kitchen from scratch. We have (in most cases) not bothered about time-saving electrical tools, because most of them don’t really save time at all.

  • A Coffee Maker (because life is too short to drink instant coffee)
  • A Kettle. Without a kettle you cannot make a cup of tea.
  • A teapot.  Likewise.
  • 10″ stainless steel Chef’s Knife
  • 4″ paring knife
  • Chopping boards (different colours)
  • A Pyrex Measuring Jug. These glass Pyrex jugs are close to unbreakable and have been around forever for good reason.
  • A Slotted spoon
  • A vegetable peeler
  • A grater
  • A rolling pin
  • A can opener
  • kitchen scissors
  • A corkscrew
  • Wooden Stiring Spoon or plastic equivelent
  • Soup ladle
  • A hand held electric mixer
  • A Wire whisk
  • An eggbeater
  • A rubber spatula
  • Nested sieves in varying sizes
  • A large steel colander
  • 12″ frying pan
  • 6 or 8″ nonstick omlette pan
  • A roasting pan
  • Two 9″ round cake pans
  • 9″x5″ loaf tin
  • 12 cup muffin tin
  • A cooling rack

Now with this little lot you can cook pretty much anything, so even if you are on a tight budget, get into the kitchen and start cooking.
